Happy Liberal Action Day

On this day of days, such as it is engraved in history's mind, let us celebrate our liberal heritage by honoring two of my favorite patriots: Dr. Joseph Warren and Admiral Elmo R. Zunwalt Jr. They both knew it was not ones perception of themselves that made one a patriot; it was the examples left behind for others to follow that made such men and women patriots.

Dr. Warren was one of the most radical and fiery of all the founding fathers. From being of the first physicians to foresee the benefits in small pox inoculation, to publishing the news of the day from a patriot's perspective(he would have been a great blogger), and although being named a General, dieing on the front line in the first battle of the Revolution(Breed's Hill). Thank you for your service, Sir.

Admiral Elmo Russell Zumwalt, Jr (1920-2000)
















This fine patriot followed his Liberal Revolutionary heart first as Chief of Naval Operations in the early 1970's. Admiral Zumwalt ordered the Navy to end racial discrimination. Going as far as to accuse senior officers of ignoring his directives. Then fought for those affected by the defoliate Agent Orange, which he himself ordered the use of in Vietnam. Admiral Zumwalt wrote(In a book co-authored with his son called "My Father, My Son"): "Knowing what I know now, I still would have ordered the defoliation to achieve the objectives it did. But that does not ease the sorrow I feel for Elmo(his son, Elmo III), or the anguish his illness, and Russell's(Elmo III's son) disability, give me. It is the first thing I think of when I awake in the morning, and the last thing I remember when I go to sleep." Thank you for your service, Sir.

Workers’ Compensation - We urge the Legislature to resist making Workers’ Compensation mandatory for all Texas employers.

Minimum Wage – We believe the Minimum Wage Law should be repealed.

Foreign Military Bases on American Soil – We urge

The first oil contracts for the majors(Exxon,Shell,BP,Chevron) in Iraq are exceptional for the oil industry.

They include a provision that could allow the companies to reap large profits at today’s prices: the ministry and companies are negotiating payment in oil rather than cash.

“These are not actually service contracts,” Ms. Benali said. “They were designed to circumvent the legislative stalemate” and bring Western companies with experience managing large projects into Iraq before the passage of the oil law.

Did you know that a total of 46 companies put in bids to drill the estimated 4 million barrels a day the future holds for Iraq? What? You had your money on Exxon, Shell, BP and Chevron? Yeah...me too.

But the company is clearly aware of the history. In an interview with Newsweek last fall, the former chief executive of Exxon, Lee Raymond, praised Iraq’s potential as an oil-producing country and added that Exxon was in a position to know. “There is an enormous amount of oil in Iraq,” Mr. Raymond said. “We were part of the consortium, the four companies that were there when Saddam Hussein threw us out, and we basically had the whole country.”

If you are still confused as to why we went to war in Iraq, maybe you should re-read the above quote. As an American citizen and 1/300,000,000 part owner of this great nation, I propose a citizens arrest warrant for Big'Oil. For the deaths and maimings of, so far, over 34,000 of our fellow Americans. I propose they be charged and tried for treason. Any Seconds?
